From time to time, we can easily neglect some of the rooms in our home. This often happens without us realising it, but it’s easy to avoid. The key to making the most of the space in your home is to make each room have its own individual purpose and focus. Here’s some tips on how to make this possible!

Your conservatory/orangery

If you’re lucky enough to have a conservatory in your home, then you need to make sure that you are utilising it fully! These spaces can often fall into a seasonal rut, with people only using them during the summer months. If you have a fair-weather relationship with your conservatory or orangery, then it is time to stop. I recommend making the space as cosy and inviting as possible, which is easy with the right conservatory blinds and warming décor choices. I use my conservatory as an entertaining room – a place I reserve for when guests come over to socialise or to enjoy family time like playing cards or board games.

Your Study

If you don’t actually work from home, your study can become a neglected space. I utilise mine by doubling it up as a reading room! It’s since become somewhat of a haven, where I can totally relax and shut out the outside world. By adding an armchair and a bookcase with a few of your favourite books, you’ll never want to leave!

The Spare Room

Having a spare room is great and a luxury for some, but if you only use it twice annually when your in-laws come to visit, it can be a bit of a wasted space. A great way to use your guest room is by making it a meditating space. Similar to converting your study into a reading haven, a spare room can become a wonderful place to relax and meditate. I keep my yoga mat permanently rolled out in mine so that I can pop in and do my yoga exercises in the morning. I also keep candles and incense in there for when I need 5 minutes to myself of an evening. I take myself into the guest room and meditate for a while. Alternatively, it’s a great idea to use this room for storage. I don’t mean simply dumping all the rubbish you don’t want to throw out in there, but by buying clever storage furniture like a devan bed, you can make the rest of your home look totally decluttered without swamping the guest room.
