Maruti Suzuki Swift is an excellent hatchback which falls under the Rs 5-10 lakhs mark. Maruti had unveiled the Swiftin 2005 at a starting price of just Rs. 5 lakhs. It may lack radical styling, but Maruti Swift is a practical and fuel efficient vehicle blessed with a decent transmission and advanced features. Though the rear space looks small from outside, Swift does offer a seating capacity for 5 adults and a good boot size of 232 litres.The Swift gets all the safety features like two airbags, ABS with EBD, child locks, side impact beams etc. which have become almost standard features in this type of hatchbacks.The new Swift is available in basic six versions. The top end automatic variant of the Swift costs Rs 6.70 lakhs approximately.

Hyundai Grand i10 is another popular one which falls in this criterion. It is built with the fluidic design and has a pleasant appearance. The hatch has a 1.1 litre engine which produces power in the range of 70 bhp and a peak torque of 160 Nm. The engine is mated to five speed manual transmission.The car has all modern features such as key less entry and front fog lamps, rear AC vents, steering mounted controls, multimedia system, coloured ORVM and door handles. The ride quality and handling are the best part of this car. It falls in the price range of Rs 4.32 to Rs 6.35 lakhs.
